Fit Wars Challenge: A Busy Mom Overcoming Doubts and Finding Discipline
This morning, I knew my workout was going to be a challenge. Training for Fit Wars with FASTer Way has been intense, and today’s routine was a true test of discipline: 100 jump squats, 100 sit-ups, 100 burpees, and 100 push-ups. I'm no expert—I can barely do push-ups on my knees. Having had two babies, one of whom is now a teenager, I hadn't focused on core strength since high school. Yet, as training for Fit Wars officially started, I knew today was coming. The day we’d attempt the entire challenge and, by attempt, I mean complete it.
Before even getting out of bed, I questioned whether I could get this workout done. Self-doubt crept in, and I felt like giving up before even starting. But I also knew I had to push through. I got up, grabbed my workout cocktail (BCAA's & Creatine), put on my workout clothes, and loaded up my app on the TV. I made it happen.
Thankfully, the pro trainers at FASTer Way anticipated this doubt. They assured me—and all the other thousands of FW VIPs & coaches—that we could do this. We broke the challenge down into five sets of 20 and did it together. I had to modify the push-ups by completing them on my knees. During the second set of sit-ups, I struggled to keep up and managed to get only 15 done. For the remaining three rounds, I did as many sit-ups as I could, then switched to crunches, managing 10-12 sit-ups per set.
This experience made me realize the importance of acknowledging my personal doubts. I post workout videos and receive comments from people who say they could never commit as well as I do. But here’s the thing—I’m human, and I have moments where I need help with motivation too.
The Power of Discipline
Discipline is the backbone of any fitness journey. It’s what gets you out of bed on days when you’d rather stay under the covers. It’s what pushes you to complete that last rep when your muscles are screaming for a break. Without discipline, self-doubt can easily take over.
When faced with a challenging workout, the key is to break it down into manageable pieces. Instead of focusing on the daunting total—400 intense reps—I took it one set at a time. This approach made the workout less overwhelming and more achievable.
Modifications Are Not Failures
Modifying exercises isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a strategic adjustment to ensure you complete the workout safely and effectively. For instance, doing push-ups on your knees or switching to crunches when sit-ups become too challenging is still progress. It’s about finding ways to keep moving forward, even if it’s not perfect.
Finding Motivation Together
One of the most powerful aspects of the FASTer Way community is the collective motivation. Knowing that thousands of others were tackling the same challenge helped me push through my doubts. Sharing struggles and victories with a supportive community can make a world of difference.
Acknowledge and Move Forward
It's crucial to acknowledge our doubts and moments of weakness. By recognizing these feelings, we can address them and find ways to overcome them. It’s okay to struggle; what matters is how we respond to those struggles.
In the end, I completed the workout, not because I was confident from the start, but because I refused to let self-doubt win. I disciplined myself to get up, show up, and give it my all.
Documenting the Journey
Writing this blog post last minute was important to me. As a busy mom, I’m constantly juggling multiple responsibilities, and sometimes it feels overwhelming. Documenting my feelings and self-doubt in real-time helps me process these emotions and share them authentically with you. I want you to know that it's okay to struggle, to feel uncertain, and to doubt yourself. But it's also important to push through those feelings, find your discipline, and keep moving forward.
So, the next time you find yourself doubting your ability to complete a tough workout or stick to your fitness goals, remember that it’s normal to have these feelings. What’s important is to harness the power of discipline, make necessary modifications, and lean on your community for support. Together, we can overcome self-doubt and achieve our fitness goals, one rep at a time.
Empower Yourself
This journey is about building a sustainable lifestyle surrounding nutrition and fitness. It's not about perfection but about making progress every day. Let's continue to empower each other and stay disciplined, knowing that we are all capable of more than we think.
Let's get out there and GET IT DONE.
