Unlock Weight Loss Success: Simple Lifestyle Changes for Moms with PCOS and Thyroid Struggles

Ever feel like you're stuck on the world's most frustrating merry-go-round? You eat healthy, you move your body, and you try every trick under the sun… yet the scale just won’t budge. Or worse, you start to see some progress only to slip back into old habits and watch those pounds creep right back on. As someone who’s been there (and is still very much there), trust me when I say—I get it.

Having PCOS or thyroid disease can make this weight loss journey feel even more like a cruel joke. For many of us moms, balancing a busy schedule is tough enough. Throw in hormone imbalances, and you’re suddenly running on fumes, fighting off cravings, and staring at that stubborn belly fat like it's your nemesis.

My Personal Struggle: Puffy Face Woes

I’ll be honest—one of the most frustrating symptoms of my thyroid condition is the puffy face. It feels like every time I look at a photo of myself, I’m reminded of it. Even when I’m doing all the right things, that puffy face stares back at me, making me feel like nothing is working. It’s exhausting and discouraging.

After noticing more puffiness than usual recently, I knew I had to make some changes. I sat down with my primary care doctor and my coach to figure out what was going on. While it’s frustrating, we adjusted my plan, and slowly, I’m working through it. But I can’t deny how disheartening it is to look at photos and see that reminder of my thyroid struggles.

You Are NOT Alone

So, if you're reading this feeling defeated by PCOS, thyroid issues, or the never-ending challenge of losing weight—I'm here to tell you that your struggle is valid, but it doesn’t have to define you. Yes, it can feel like you’ve tried everything, and nothing works. But maybe what’s needed isn’t a complete overhaul but rather a few small changes that stick.

Small Shifts = Big Wins

Here’s where it gets fun (I promise, I’m not lying). Sometimes it’s not about trying the latest fad diet or forcing yourself to spend hours at the gym. Real change often comes from those tiny, often overlooked, shifts in our daily lives. Things like:

  • Consistency over intensity. Instead of 90-minute workouts five days a week (who has the time?!), try aiming for 20–30 minutes of movement daily.

  • Mindful eating over restriction. Forget extreme calorie cutting or swearing off all carbs forever. Focus on balanced meals with whole foods, lean protein, and enough carbs and fats to support your energy and metabolism.

  • Sleep over more coffee. I know, I know. Sleep is rare when you're juggling kids, work, and life. But getting enough sleep can work wonders for your hormones and help combat the fatigue that comes with PCOS and thyroid struggles.

Laugh It Off and Keep Moving Forward

I’m not saying it’s easy. Far from it. But I’ve found that embracing the struggle (and laughing at the absurdity of it all sometimes) can keep you motivated. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to overhaul your entire lifestyle in one go. Start small, stay consistent, and slowly but surely, things will change.

The beauty of this journey is that you get to decide how you move forward—one small choice at a time. And trust me, those small choices add up in ways that will surprise you.
