From Soccer Season to 5k Training: Busy Moms Achieving Fitness Goals This July
Embracing Progress and Setting New Challenges
June has been an incredible month of growth and learning for many of you and for me. Between sending my oldest off to Japan for an exchange trip, wrapping up soccer season, hiking, and mountain biking, our summer is in full swing!
My family and I participate in the annual Last Mile Ride 5k, so that means lacing up those running shoes and adding in small bursts of training sessions! Running is not one of my favorite pastimes, but I extend the invitation to my MINTFit community, not only to join me for the 5K but also to work together in training! We'll get there, one step at a time!
Balancing work, family, and fitness is no small feat. But together, we've navigated the highs and lows, learning valuable lessons along the way. As I step into July, it's time to reflect on my successes, acknowledge my challenges, and set new goals to keep moving forward.
Reflecting on June: Successes and Challenges
Successes:
Consistent Workouts: Despite the hectic schedule, I managed to stick to my workout routines. Whether it was early morning sessions or squeezing in a quick workout during lunchtime, the dedication paid off.
Improved Nutrition: Embracing a protein-packed whole food diet has shown significant results. I’ve noticed improved energy levels, better muscle recovery, and a more satiated feeling throughout the day.
Building Community: The support and encouragement within our MINTFit community have been heartwarming. Sharing our stories, challenges, and victories has created a strong bond, motivating each other to keep pushing forward.
Challenges:
Time Management: Balancing everything is tough. Some days, walks were skipped, and nutrition goals weren't met. It's essential to remember that it's okay to have off days. What's important is to get back on track without guilt.
Staying Motivated: There were moments when motivation dipped, and sleeping in looked more inviting than a workout. Finding ways to reignite that spark and reminding myself of my "why" is crucial.
Protein Intake: Ensuring I met my protein goals every day was challenging. Busy schedules sometimes led to missed meals or less-than-ideal food choices. However, this challenge has also highlighted areas where I can improve.
Setting New Goals for July: Training for a 5k and Beyond
July brings new opportunities and goals to strive for. This month, I'm focusing on incorporating additional walks and short runs as part of my training for the upcoming 5k. Alongside this, I'm excited to take on the challenge of the FASTer Way Fit Wars, which includes a rigorous circuit:
FW Fit Wars Workout: Challenge myself with a single round for time, completing:
Jump Squats: 100 reps
Sit Ups: 100 reps
Burpees: 100 reps
Push Ups: 100 reps
Here's how I plan to tackle July:
Embrace Outdoor Activities:
Additional Walks and Short Runs: Incorporate more walks and short runs into my weekly routine. Whether it's a brisk walk during lunch break or a short run in the evening, these activities will build my endurance and prepare me for the 5k.
Prioritize Protein:
Meal Planning: Plan my meals in advance to ensure I'm hitting my protein goals. Ensure that I have protein available on hand to toss into my lunchbox for work or when grabbing a quick snack.
Protein-Rich Recipes: Explore new recipes that are both delicious and high in protein. This not only keeps my meals exciting but also ensures I'm nourishing my body adequately.
Set Realistic Goals:
Weekly Milestones: Break down my 5k training into manageable weekly goals. Celebrate each milestone, no matter how small, to stay motivated and on track.
Adjust When Needed: Life happens, and sometimes plans change. It's okay to adjust my goals as needed. Flexibility is key to maintaining a sustainable fitness routine.
Stay Connected:
Engage with the Community: Continue to share my journey within the MINTFit community. My experiences, both triumphs and setbacks, can inspire and motivate others.
Accountability Partners: Partner with a fellow MINTFit mom to keep each other accountable. Having someone to share my progress with can make a big difference.
Moving Forward with Determination
As we run full speed into the new month, let's carry forward the lessons we've learned and the progress we've made. Remember, every step counts, and every effort brings us closer to our goals. Together, we'll conquer July, train for the 5k, tackle the FW Fit Wars challenge, and ensure we meet our protein intake to fuel our bodies for success.
